The Prediction Problem
In 2015, a prominent robotics researcher told a conference audience that self-driving cars would be ubiquitous by 2020. In 2012, a widely cited forecast predicted that personal household robots would be a $50 billion market by 2025. In 2017, several major consultancies projected that “lights out” fully automated factories would be common within a decade.
None of these happened.
